Atonement participates in many outreach programs. One of them is VEAP: Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People. Another of them is AGORA Ministries, which uses space in Atonement's Mission House, located just southwest of the church, by the rear parking lot.
VEAP: Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People has a website at http://www.veapvolunteers.org
VEAP History:
VEAP is a grassroots agency that was founded in 1973 by thirteen churches in Richfield. VEAP was founded for the purpose of neighbors coming together to help other neighbors experiencing hardships in their community.
VEAP fulfills its mission through donations of money, goods and volunteer services coordinated by a professional staff, which creates a neighbor helping neighbor program and strengthens the community as a whole. Each year over 1000 volunteers with support from Businesses, Faith Communities, Foundations, Government, Individuals, Organizations and Schools work together improving the lives of people in our community.
Atonement participates with a number of local Bloomington Christian churches every year to provide lunches for children whose summer programs have been cut, which means the lunches served at those programs are no longer available. To fill the gap for those families, Atonement helps to fund, as well as package and distribute lunches through the assistance and direction of the VEAP agency.
Packing and distribution was a big success this year! Expect the date for the next one to be announced in summer 2007.
